"The whiteness of winter cannot bury the blubbery things that splash and frolic among the frozen memories of Heathen harvests, in a land haunted by lard and ancestral lip-smacking." The collision of an overly dramatic film score/soundtrack with the banal yet enigmatic images of snow covered streets leads to a dissonant effect; the expectation of one is not fulfilled by the other.

Toto's Rescue

The Wicked Witch of the West comes to Kansas (which looks suspiciously like the grounds of a California college campus) and steals Dorothy's dog Toto. The Good Witch tells her that the moral code of all Witches must give her a chance to earn back her dog. The Wicked Witch decides Dorothy must go to Storybook Land and correctly guess the identities of ten storybook characters in the order she encounters them. She is also allowed the help of all children (watching at home) between the ages of two and twelve. She opens a posterboard door to reveal the greenscreened world of Storybook Land, encountering lively personalities like a rapping Little Boy Blue, beautiful Rapunzel, and goofy Pinnochio [sic], as well as thesped characters like Jack and Jill. Upon encountering each one, the image grows still and pale and the lyrics to a song being performed are chyroned up on the screen. —Scott Hutchins

Trying to recreate reality 30s, who came to the flowering of creativity Harms, the director plays the style of filming, acting at that time and enters into the picture, "the aged" sound. Thus, it is possible to achieve maximum reliability of the author's text and sound to help the viewer to immerse themselves in the atmosphere in which he lived and worked classic absurdity. This is - a world of illusions, allusions and associations, reflecting a stream of consciousness of the creator living in an era of silence.

Drinking Battle

Drinking Battle

1989 • 15 min • Germany
A vivid document of the hard-drinking West Berlin scene of the late eighties, and at the same time one of the last important events before the fall of the Wall. “On the afternoon of 25.06.89, my good friend Wolfgang came to me and told me about a tequila fight drink that Andi wanted to organize with friends in a tin store in Mittenwalderstraße in Kreuzberg. We grabbed the VHS camera and went along. 13 hard-drinking participants, including two New Zealanders, took part. The rules were simple: "One tequila every five minutes! If you don't drink, you're out!" Our plan: Wolfgang was to drink along first and then take over the camera later to film "insight", so to speak. I was supposed to film the beginning and then, as a non-alcoholic drinker, support him. After a short time, however, Wolfgang got so carried away that everything turned out quite differently...“

"Out of the Ruins is a documentary film about coming to terms with grief after the Armenian earthquake of 7th December 1988. I made it as a twenty-something trainee producer at BBC Television in 1989. The suffering, faith and hope of the Armenian people at the time shook me profoundly, forever more. Almost 20 years on, we are releasing the film again in the hope that it can be used to help raise money for the Armenian people today. May their courage and strength be an inspiration to us all." - Agnieszka Piotrowska, director.
