In Sue Ford’s radical short film Egami, Melbourne’s imposing Shrine of Remembrance is rebadged the “New Settlers’ Temple of Wars” by the artist’s intergalactic visitor, who observes from a spaceship. The Shrine is one of many familiar Melbourne landmarks rendered as totalitarian monuments, which have usurped the lands of ‘the Dreaming People’, of which there is no sign left except in Swanston St souvenir stores. In Egami, fashion mannequins are interpreted as women for sale, statues are erected for white men and war, and Hamer Hall is a survival bunker, in a work that’s exploration of Australian identity and feminism is still relevant today. — ACMI

After a somewhat disappointing season, West German Walter Rohrl bounced back to give the Audi team a welcome boost to morale with a devastating victory in the San Remo Rally in Italy. It had been thought Timo Salonen would lead the Peugeot team to another win. However, he was eclipsed by a brilliant drive from the former world champion. Nevertheless, Salonen and the Peugeot are established as the champions for 1985. This video graphically illustrates the hazards the drivers had to face, not least being the huge clouds of dust and the almost suicidally reckless spectators who were nearly as dangerous as the notorious crowds in Portugal. The Lancias made a welcome comeback and added colour to an event, which turned out more a test of stamina than predicted. Rohrl can be seen hurling the big Quattro through the mountains sometimes defying the laws of gravity in his urgency to see off the little French turbos. On the gravel or tarmac, San Remo belonged to Rohrl. See how he did it.

Five years of domination of the World Rally Championship came to a dramatic end in the opening round of the 1985 competition. Flying Finn Ari Vatanen displayed every ounce of the forceful style for which he is loved by fans all over the globe as he gave the Peugeot team a deserved victory over the previously all-conquering Audi Quattro driven by the host country’s Stig Blomqvist. After two days of flat-out driving Vatanen and co-driver Terry Hayman were one minute 49 seconds ahead of Blomqvist to establish the Peugeot 205 as a main rally contender.

Timo Salonen and Stig Blomqvist finished first and second in the Acropolis Rally to substantiate their similar positions in the world championship after six rounds. This video faithfully records those successes. But more than that, it captures the drama of two very different manufacturers slugging it out on the gravel roads of Greece. Salonen in the diminutive Peugeot pursued constantly by Blomqvist in the almighty Audi Quattro. See the heart-stopping, all-action style as the world’s finest crews slide through the endless corners, throwing up huge clods of earth and raising mushrooms of dust. Some of the terrain’s horrendous rockery is also depicted with car after car bumping frighteningly close to disaster. But through it all, Salonen kept steady, ignoring faster times set by his rival. Consistency brought the 205 Turbo 16 home ahead of the Quattro, and the myth that early Acropolis leaders always faded was finally laid to rest.

Two young hitchhiking couples have a dangerous adventure at a truck stop. There they bump into drinkers and gamblers, a mime surprises them and other damsels entertain them. When the accompanying girls manage to get on a truck, the chase and rescue begins. Their drivers ignore the rules of the game.

This outlines the typical client profile of family genetic counseling centers, which provide information about the risks of having a child with a neural tube defect, for example. A team of specialists from Leipzig, including a woman, is introduced who invites parents of newborn disabled children to have the disability clarified by family genetics. The diagnostic testing of a disabled infant will be shown. Middle-aged couples who wish to have children are also shown.

Then the colour instantly covers the entire video surface, a naked man's body appears and the camera starts revealing its details. The end of the video presents seemingly frozen bodies that, within the medium of motion pictures, endeavor once again to find the illusion of stillness offered by fine art.
