Black Forest Trading Post

"In Black Forest Trading Post, the postcard landmark itself travels the world, a winking subversion of the whole idea of ‘being-there’ and of the pilgrimages that postcards, or for that matter, other souvenirs, are meant to indicate."- Stephen Broomer

Orpheus and Eurydice

Orpheus and Eurydice

1976 • 12 min • Argentina
Orpheus' song tames scales and dolphins, dictates laws to the wind and sets the rhythm of the oars that move the sea. Those who listen to it remain motionless in contemplation. Between bodies, the Patagonian landscape and the crossing of boundaries with the private record of a vacation, Narcisa Hirsch and Rafael Maino unfold among the melodies of a passage from Orphee et Eurydice. This film also bears the name "Rafael, 1976" and can be considered part of the series of the diaries with "Rafael, agosto 1984".
Working to the Beat

Working to the Beat

1976 • 9 min
A group of women is pounding millet to the rhythm of a song, a farmer is hoeing his field in tempo, and a man is dancing to the sound of drums during a ritual of possession. Zuremingu

Zuremingu

1976 • 4 min • Japan
This silent, 8mm film combines two camera procedures: time lapse and the zoom lens. It aims not for technical smoothness but a beguiling abruptness. Starting at the same time each evening, the camera records, in jerky leaps, the moment when the sky darkens and an urban streetlight turns on, illuminating the screen. Alternating zooms-in and zooms-out, Ranmaru Usui – part of a Japanese 1970s movement that explored 'cinema of the soul' – offers transcendence within the everyday. – Adrian Martin

Matinée 3:15

Matinée 3:15

1976 • 25 min • Venezuela
A parody of a movie, including commercials and a surreal trailer. They are the striking prologue to a disappointing film, which consists of the presentation of the characters of a story that is not told. The type of estrangement that the director seeks, to which is added the direct appeal to the public, is a questioning of the role that this type of spectacle assigns to the spectator, and of the conditions that make him distinguish cinema itself from advertising and allow him to enjoy detective narrative. The mockery, moreover, is directed equally at the consumer society and at the radicals who believe they can combat it with graffiti.
