Stoned Vienna

Stoned Vienna

1976 • 20 min
The theme is a wordless but nonetheless critical observation and juxtaposition of the historical and - at the time - modern architecture in Vienna with the decay, destruction and redesign of functional buildings, the beauty and ugliness of an old city and its pathos, and its new outskirts. In the second part of the film, a technique of double exposure, the superimposition of color negative and positive, is used as a kind of transfiguration of the situation. (...) Stoned Vienna was made around the same time as ViennaFilm 1896-1976 by Ernst Schmidt jr. That's why there are a number of parallels that came about by chance. A repeatedly exposed scene, the wax doll Dolly, a symbol of the way Vienna is treated, was made available to Ernst Schmidt jr. as a contribution to his ViennaFilm. (Moucle Blackout)

Glass Shadows

Glass Shadows

1976 • 13 min • United States of America
"Glass Shadows is a sensual formalistic diary, filmed in the early morning light of my studio. The primary images are of my Bolex-filming nude reflection set within window frames, a pane of glass, and light projected by the rising sun. The film moves forward via on-going exploration of reflected and overlapping images––sustained by light, color, and the rhythmic pulse of a leaky kitchen faucet. A fusion of form and subject is inevitable within a work that is the story of its making." - Holly Fisher

Pour vous servir

Pour vous servir

1976 • 40 min • Belgium
1976: a university hospital in Brussels. Old women gather in a common room. Sick? Perhaps. Lonely, above all. The film is also the perspective of a North African woman on other women, nurses and patients. The medical staff discuss their working conditions, and the filmmaker questions, challenges and bears witness to what she sees in this ‘death ward’. Another illness. Unclassified. A very malignant tumour. A tumour that proliferates in a society ‘proud’ of its social security system but which creates a ghetto of the unproductive, the ‘left behind’, the elderly who hurt themselves by contemplating their loneliness in a hospital ward.
