An experimental film that investigates the act of perception and the limits and possibilities through vision. Accompanied by an omniscient narrator and the conjuring of striking imagery, the film examines various conceptual underpinnings of what it means to "see" and what our eyes can truly do. A 2K restoration was made possible using a sole-surviving 16mm colour positive print from the Asian Film Archive Collection (AFA) in 2021.

In this 16 mm feature film, the journalist Miguel Salguero portrays the adventures of a group of people who make a bet and undertake a risky trip by land to Puerto Limón, crossing mighty rivers and wild nature, at a time when there was no road to the Caribbean port.

Third Book of Exercises

Film made of an outdoor performance of my 1967 piece,"3rd Book of Exercises." A pianist practices scales - an electronic musician practices with tape. The piece explores sounds of autos (the American sound) and 2 performances of Lord Buckley. Several of the faculty at Brandeis were very unhappy with the piece and asked Alvin Lucier to better monitor work coming from the electronic music studio. Then film was shot on 400 ft of B&W negative that had survived a fire and dousing with fire hoses. -R.L.

For this videotape, Nauman turned the camera sideways and positioned it so that his head is cropped from the frame and his body is presented from neck to ankles. As he stands in the corner, his back to the wall, he appears to be lying down; falling backwards into the corner and then pushing himself off the wall again, he appears to be trying to levitate himself... As he performs these actions, his hands slam into the wall to break his falls, and the sounds become an integral part of the activities filmed. -- EAI
