For a century and a half, mountain images by their beauty have largely gained from its influence, its frequentation and its development. But they are also a tool in the service of science, fixing the transformation of landscapes, habitats... Over 150 years, the Tairraz dynasty photographed the mountain. Four generations of photographers have magnified the Mont-Blanc massif. From the first photograph taken at the summit of Mont-Blanc in 1861 to the present day, this art is at the origin of many mountaineering vocations and has largely contributed to the tourist development of these formerly ignored valleys. Here is the wonderful story of a dynasty of photographers, the Tairraz, which stretches from 1861 to the dawn of the 2000s.

Farrago

In 1984, Mike Cartmell began Narratives of Egypt, a four-part series that deals with the father in Prologue: Infinite Obscure, the son in In the form of the letter “X”, the lover in Cartouche, and wraps it all up in Farrago, a word meaning: a medley, a heap of fragments. Using a speculative etymology, Cartmell “adopts” the American writer Herman Melville as his father, using selected passages to ruminate on death, language and paternity. Farrago remained incomplete when Mike died, this is my version of the closing chapter, which continues Mike's project of remaking Moby-Dick, and presiding over the unholy marriage of Egypt and Melville.

The Hebrew Superhero

The film explores the image of the Israeli hero and Israeli identity - from Uri Muri, the first Israeli comics hero created in 1936 by Aryeh Navon and Leah Goldberg, to modern-day heroes, such as Dudu Geva's giant yellow duck and characters by Shay Charka and Daniella London Dekel, among others. Israeli comics, which had long been on the sidelines of the country's culture, have become gradually more popular. They have also grown increasingly important in shedding light on the complexities and contradictions of Israeli identity.

Real West

Real West is an experimental portrait of two roadside ghost towns in South Dakota. It is also the tale of two elderly proprietors who devotedly maintain these sites. Such roadside attractions conjure the mythical West through material and cultural artifacts, from a decrepit wagon wheel to an out-of-tune player piano. Tourists are encouraged to not only experience but also to re-enact these historical environments. The film uses contact microphones and super-8mm film as archaeological tools to uncover the material traces of this living history.
