Times Square is an abstract meditation on urban shapes and sounds. It was created at California Institute of the Arts on a Cubicomp and IBM-AT, using Lumena, Easel and PC-10 software. Digital images on the computer monitor were shot onto 16mm film using a Bolex camera on a tripod, pointed into the monitor. Co-directors Engel and Priestley were in the first computer animation class at Cal Arts (1984-85), taught by Vibeke Sorensen.

The film opens with a newspaper from the distant future of October 5, 2000 with headlines reading "Space Travel to Mars" and "tax cuts." The protagonist of the short begins by debating whether to buy a new car or not as his family watches 3-D television. A show then comes on explaining the history of the automobile. The show within the show moves through the beginning of the 20th century starting with hand cranking cars and topless buggies. The clip moves through the decades explaining new inventions like windshield wipers and suspension systems.

The stooges are taking care of their invalid friend Mary who is confined to wheelchair. At their jobs in a theater, where they hope to earn money for an operation for Mary, they witness a hypnotist, doing his act. The stooges become subjects for his show and are hypnotized into walking out on a flagpole high above the ground. When they come out of their trance and realize their predicament they fall into a window and foil a robbery in progress thus earning reward money to pay for Mary's operation.

This short narrative chronicles a week in the lives of three teenage girls. They are high school classmates from different social circles, who form a bond in the wake of an unanticipated incident. In this spoof of TV's "The Honeymooners", Ralph Crumden and Ned Morton are mouse versions of Jackie Gleason and Art Carney's characters on the TV show. When new human tenants move into the apartment where the Crumden and Morton couples live, Ralph and Ned try to gain access to a banquet of food in the people's refrigerator, which is guarded by an orange cat.
