In a serene vacation home in the Palm Springs desert, a young woman (Wendy McColm) arrives there with her friends, a slightly older married couple (Nora Kirkpatrick and Matt Peters), and the couple are subjecting her to a rather intense version of a blind date: a single man (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) she's never met will soon be joining them for the weekend. Like any jaded millennial, the woman greets the impending set up with a sense of dread: "These things never work out!" she says on the car ride out. But, when her suitor arrives, things don't go quite as expected.

We learn the true stories behind various nursery rhymes. Little Jack Horner: a servant to a city official was delivering a present to King Henry VIII, baked, as was the custom of the time, in a pie. The present was the deed to a valuable estate, which Horner stole. Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary: Mary Stuart brought "quite contrary" French style to the Scottish court. After a series of disastrous romances, she was jailed; the jailer's son, captivated by her, helped her escape. After a brief but disastrous attempted coup, she fled to England, where her sister, Queen Elizabeth, soon grew jealous and had her imprisoned. London Bridge: The bridge, finished in 1209, was soon lined by shops with luxury apartments upstairs, turning into a popular commercial and cultural zone. The Great Fire that broke out in 1666 spread to the bridge, but the houses were rebuilt. Over the ages, things decayed. In 1823, things finally got bad enough that the bridge was demolished and replaced.

This film is a collaborative work generated using multiple AI tools, depicting the protagonist’s unsettling discoveries on her first day at a new company. The workplace exudes the mystique and solemnity of a religious sanctuary while maintaining the order and oppression of a corporate office. The employees move and speak in eerie unison, as if participating in a silent yet sacred workplace mass. The protagonist, bewildered and full of questions, begins her work—only to find that no matter how hard she tries, the progress bar remains frozen. By this point, an overwhelming sense of suffocation has filled her workstation... In this space, language has nearly vanished, and the boundary between the sacred and the mechanical blurs. The film persistently raises questions to the viewer: Are we undergoing some form of ‘modern ritual’? As societal rhythms accelerate, has the progress bar become a measure of psychological tempo? Are we, without realizing it, participating in a new kind of faith? AWARDS:

In Cairo Cats, cats are the motif that provide the spine of the story as well as the allegory for the disenfranchised Egyptians. The narrative is driven by the filmmaker's narration and hangs loosely on her relationship with feral cats that she has cared. The filmmaker, Kamal-Eldin, is the main character, who documents her daily life as she casts a critical look at contemporary Cairo. She bemoans the deterioration of Cairo that she witnessed over a few decades. “It’s hard to believe Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations in the world,” she laments. “Only a hundred years ago, Cairo was considered a grand, cosmopolitan city. What happened?” Kamal-Eldin’s critique is geared to more recent times, the benchmark being the failed revolution of the Arab Spring, a decade ago. Although Egyptians deposed President Mubarak, they were left with even more autocratic leadership. More entrenched than ever, the military regime now controls the political and economic landscape with an iron fist. Due to the mismanagement of the economy as well as the overpopulation, many Egyptians are impoverished. Yet despite their bleak conditions, Kamal-Eldin points out that many Egyptians retain their humanity and sense of humor. AWARDS:
