GIRL and BOY meet little strangers.

Two female police detectives investigate a brutal murder of an aspiring actor in 1947 Los Angeles.

In a serene vacation home in the Palm Springs desert, a young woman (Wendy McColm) arrives there with her friends, a slightly older married couple (Nora Kirkpatrick and Matt Peters), and the couple are subjecting her to a rather intense version of a blind date: a single man (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) she's never met will soon be joining them for the weekend. Like any jaded millennial, the woman greets the impending set up with a sense of dread: "These things never work out!" she says on the car ride out. But, when her suitor arrives, things don't go quite as expected.

Wrestling, a sport which has been around for centuries, is fast gaining modern popularity. Santa Monica Beach is where many modern day wrestlers can be found. Often daylighting as beach lifeguards, these men have much time to work out to build their strength and endurance. In a rehearsal match, two wrestlers are shown demonstrating some typical wrestling moves, with the narrator describing what makes each move effective. Then a real life match is shown to a cheering audience.

Elmer Smoot and Bing Crosby both have a crush on vocal teacher Beth Sawyer, who is sponsoring an upcoming music recital. Smoot is an aspiring singer who hopes to run Bing Crosby off the radio, though he doesn't realize Crosby's identity when he meets him. They become bitter rivals for Sawyer's affection.

The Great Fire that broke out in 1666 spread to the bridge, but the houses were rebuilt. Over the ages, things decayed. In 1823, things finally got bad enough that the bridge was demolished and replaced.

In Cairo Cats, cats are the motif that provide the spine of the story as well as the allegory for the disenfranchised Egyptians. The narrative is driven by the filmmaker's narration and hangs loosely on her relationship with feral cats that she has cared. The filmmaker, Kamal-Eldin, is the main character, who documents her daily life as she casts a critical look at contemporary Cairo. She bemoans the deterioration of Cairo that she witnessed over a few decades. “It’s hard to believe Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations in the world,” she laments. “Only a hundred years ago, Cairo was considered a grand, cosmopolitan city. What happened?” Kamal-Eldin’s critique is geared to more recent times, the benchmark being the failed revolution of the Arab Spring, a decade ago. Although Egyptians deposed President Mubarak, they were left with even more autocratic leadership. More entrenched than ever, the military regime now controls the political and economic landscape with an iron fist. Due to the mismanagement of the economy as well as the overpopulation, many Egyptians are impoverished. Yet despite their bleak conditions, Kamal-Eldin points out that many Egyptians retain their humanity and sense of humor. AWARDS:

Galina, a woman who is rapidly losing her youth, fell in love with the police chief - she can no longer live in secret. She is very ashamed in front of her husband. She is haunted by the suspicions of her husband and those around her. One evening she can't stand it and decides to kill her husband. Her lover helps to hide the crime. Meanwhile, karma does not wait for justice and decides to punish her lover by taking his wife's life. Karma is satisfied and disappears, taking away Galina's mind. Based on a true story, A SONG FOR MANZANAR is based on one chapter of a forthcoming novel written by author and educator Yosh Golden. It is set in 1945 Manzanar Japanese American Internment Camp and is about a young mother, Sachie, who is driven to instill hope in her playful son while try to communicate with her sister Hiroko who still lives in Hiroshima. Although not physically together, the sisters write letters to each other and through the Japanese childhood folk song, 'The Crow' they maintain hope that one they will be reunited. The film is by Yosh's daughter Kazuko Golden and is about her mother Yosh who was born in Manzanar and her grandmother Sachie, the main protagonist in the film.
