“Tree People” debuted as an 11 minute, 8-channel video installation within the exhibition “Model Home Part 1: After Wisconsin Death Trip”, at an experimental art space called The Poor Farm, in rural Wisconsin. The installation makes use of a grid of flatscreen televisions to assume the appearance of a nineteenth-century puppet theater. This tableau sets up a conversation between two digitally constructed “hand puppets” who discuss a fictional video game. Animations of historical “fortune teller” style games, such as the ouija board and magic eight ball accompany the characters to address themes of destiny, history and death within emerging, interactive forms of entertainment. Support for the environment takes many forms, and the passion young audiences have for short films offers a unique opportunity for connection. Using visual language that resonates with today’s youth, we present environmental challenges in a simple yet powerful way, igniting hope and action without lecturing. This dramatic work is crafted specifically for the younger generation, encouraging them to reflect on the future of our planet and embrace their responsibility for the environment in a natural, organic way. We believe this approach will inspire more people, especially young individuals, to come together and create a greener, more sustainable future. As we face an unprecedented climate crisis, this short film delivers a powerful call to action. Through doomsday prophecy and striking visual metaphors, it warns of an impending environmental disaster and the urgent need for a global response to climate change, resource depletion, and ecological imbalance. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this film unites global communities to take responsibility for the Earth. Our cinematic journey urges a worldwide awakening, calling all to care for the planet and secure a thriving future for all of humanity. AWARDS:
