İsmail, the only child of an impoverished family, dreams of owning a bicycle above all else. Aware of his family's financial struggles, he keeps his wish to himself, making do with a tree branch shaped like handlebars that he carries everywhere as a makeshift toy. His hopes soar when an elderly man—whose sheep İsmail's father is temporarily grazing ahead of the Eid festival—promises to buy him a bicycle once the flock is sold. Entrusted with this promise, İsmail eagerly selects a bicycle at the local shop. However, when the sheep are sold, the old man breaks his word. Consumed by anger and betrayal, İsmail impulsively steals a bicycle from one of the children near the village fountain. As the children chase after him, İsmail is struck by an inattentive driver, meeting a tragic death. The film recounts the poignant demise of a child's innocence beneath the weight of broken promises.
