A man preoccupied with reading his Wall Street Journal goes into an antique store looking for a one-year-anniversary present for his wife. The old lady behind the counter gives him a bottle of perfume and warns him that it is "powerful," but he doesn't listen.....hence the quote at the top of my review. The surprise occurs when Mr. Strait-laced Businessman (as evidently portrayed here by cartoonist Bill Plympton) sees what happens after his hottie wife gets a whiff of the perfume.I don't want to spoil the ending. Suffice to say, other people enter the picture, such as a business boss our man wants to impress and it is pretty funny what happens, even if it is predictable. You'll laugh out loud in the last 30 seconds......guaranteed.This was another enjoyable early ('80s) Plympton cartoon (animated short) that was part of the DVD titled, "Plymptoons: The Complete Early Works Of Bill Plympton."

Refracted images, not unlike those in a funhouse mirror, display two children playing in a backyard, a boy and a girl. There's a dog, a swing, a picket fence, a Big Wheels trike. The grass is green and lush. A soundtrack mixes a chorus, swelling strings, and a child vocalizing. The effect is to idealize the images.

The protagonist drifts through abstract moments—fragmented chapters revealing contradiction, strength, camaraderie, and love.He is deeply Japanese. Masculine, yet uninhibited. A dreamer, an artist, led by instinct. He feels everything deeply.Untamed and sharp, he carries the weight of tradition and a warrior spirit—still burning in the present, despite resistance. Some scenes include heavily tattooed figures—people who still face deep social stigma in Japan. But here, they are seen as individuals: complex, expressive, and part of a broader beauty that challenges outdated assumptions. No dialogue. No map. Just movement, sound, breath. Each scene stands alone—fragmented, yet pulsing with connection. A visual poem. A heartbeat, not a plot.Surreal dance, symbols, and a bold collision of tradition and hyper-modern aesthetics—refusing explanation. Masculine and feminine energies flow—distinct, balanced, simply present. At its core: contradiction.Spiritual yet wild. Rooted yet drifting. Searching, but fully here. Moments of connection flicker—companionship, understanding, love. Not just for those on the edge, but for anyone alive.A quiet reminder: we come alive through one another. This film is made with deep love for Japan—rooted in tradition, yet unafraid of change, open to fusion. It reflects a country evolving. It invites you to find your own meaning—or simply drift with it.What remains is a sensation: unfiltered, unbound, and fiercely alive.

The Awakening is the hypothetical and imaginary rebirth of the living fossils created by Alberto Di Fabio. In the motion-picture these small ancient creatures find themselves linked to the environment through invisible shapes. They arise in an unrecognisable landscape that has changed since their times and that is now inherited by humanity. A world that has no memory of a nature that is uncontaminated and pure. These entities that are at the same time abstract and real become audience of this changing world and souvenir of the harmony between planet and nature. AWARDS:

The short film Godspeed is an introspective exploration of memory, love, and closure between two men, set against a decaying post-Soviet landscape. The narrative is not defined by conflict or resolution but by the profound and peaceful space between them—an unspoken understanding of what has passed and what must be let go. There is no urgency, only moments of stillness—where the past is honored without clinging, and the act of closure becomes an intimate, almost sacred gesture. It is a meditation on the fragile nature of relationships and the power of letting go. AWARDS:
